Jeff May is a national motivational speaker, consultant and strategist who has consistently sought to leave a significant impact on the lives of people he has encountered. 

​

Jeff acknowledges that the change he wanted to see in the world and in others started with a change within himself.  

 

This is the message of hope and inspiration that he carries with him: “If you want different, do different.  You’re the change.”

 

Born and raised in the city of  Detroit, Michigan, Jeff has had the privilege to present a wide range of workshops, seminars, consultations and key-note addresses to audiences throughout the United States.  He has been highly requested by countless cities, school districts, educational institutions, churches, correctional facilities and various organizations.

Biography

Mr. May has crafted programs and workshops that have impacted and changed the lives of many as he continues his mission and efforts to uplift and empower.  His passion and genuine approach allows his message of hope and encouragement to permeate even the toughest of emotional and social exteriors.

 

He brings a fresh, exciting and inspiring twist on some of the most commonly talked about discussions and issues like building relationships with students, restorative practices, youth engagement, juvenile justice, social-emotional interventions and closing the achievement gap.

 

Mr. May has worked within the Roanoke City Public School System in the role of  Student Mentor and Coach as well as Director for the Westside 21st Century Community Learning Center.

 

Jeff  served as the advisor of the Westside Boys To Men Program which provided male development training for at risk young men ages 5 to 11 years old.

 

Jeff also established and advised one of the only Elementary School Debate & Competitive Step Teams in Virginia. 

 

In April of  2013 his Westside Debaters were named the recipients of the 2013 National MAGNA Award.  The award recognizes school districts around the country for outstanding programs that advance student learning and encourage community involvement in schools. 

He has received numerous awards and honors from organizations like the NAACP, SCLC, Roanoke Urban Professionals League and Total Action for Progress (TAP).

 

 He served as the Director of The Young Adult Life Enhancement Program for TAP (Total Action for Progress) in conjunction with The U.S. Department of Labor.  The program provides court involved youth ages 14 to 24 with mentoring, life skills training, reintegration services, trade skill certifications as well as a second chance as they triumphantly become “cycle breakers”.

 

Jeff served as Youth Development Director for The Cumberland County School District in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  The district serves over 50,000 students.

Most recently, Jeff May was the Managing Director of Impact for City Year in San Antonio, Texas.  City Year San Antonio works alongside teachers and community partners to support students across the city providing academic, student engagement and social emotional learning support for students and families within the San Antonio Independent School District.

 

Jeff currently serves as the Chief Administrative Officer for the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum.  SAAACAM is committed to collecting, preserving and sharing the African American Cultural Heritage of the San Antonio Region.

​

Additionally, he sits on the Board of Directors and serves as the Board Chair of R.O.O.T.S Mentoring Inc.  R.O.O.T.S is nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement and development of youth and their families.  He also proudly serves as a member of the San Antonio Area African American Community Fund Board.

 

Mr. May is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the first inter-collegiate fraternity for African American males. 

 

His aim is to save, redirect and inspire one life at a time.
